On 8th January, 2020, a workshop on ‘Theatre in Education’ was conducted by Mr Vinay Pandey who was serving as Deputy Headmaster of The Doon School. He began with the topic – Breaking the Fourth Wall, a performance convention in theatre where actors are faced with an invisible imaginary wall separating them from the audience. The audience can see them but they act as though there is no one watching their act. A teacher too is an actor who can break this invisible wall through portraying herself/himself as a vibrant, empathetic listener, maintaining eye contact with each student in her class and last but not the least, sending out positive signals to her students and colleagues. Mr Vinay quoted that ‘teachers’ are no more ‘a sage on the stage’ but ‘a guide by their(students) side’.
